Sam
Maitin Original Offered at Auction
Donated by Dr. Luther Brady, Philadelphia
Oncologist, Art Collector
Swainton. An
original work of art, created for the Brady
Foundation Cancer Research Center by Sam Maitin,
commissioned by Dr. Luther Brady, one of the
world’s foremost oncologists, is being
donated to Access to Art’s auction held on
May 4th at the Sand Barrens from 6 to
9 p.m in Swainton. Access to Art, is a N.J.
not for profit that presents the visual and
performing arts in Cape May County. Sam Maitin,
internationally known Philadelphia artist, was a
mentor for the organization.
Brady, an avid art
collector, and Renaissance man, came to Cape May
to speak about his
Collection of New York
20th century art at Maitin’s
request.
The donated work
is valued at $5,000. “Dr. Brady
commissioned Sam Maitin to create ceiling tiles
in his cancer treatment center in South Jersey,
so that patients, under that big machine, getting
radiation, and scared because they had cancer,
could view wonderful colorful works on the
ceiling to relax them.” Beitel
said. Sam Maitin served on the Brady
Foundation.
Luther Brady was interviewed
by Craig Rinkerman, young, local film maker from
Cape May, now working in NY for Partizan Films as
an editor, and Brady anchors his film,
“Sam Maitin:
Celebration,” which will be shown on
May l9th at the Middle Township PAC, 212 Bayberry
Rd., Cape May Court House chronicling the life
and art of internationally known artist, Sam
Maitin. The film begins an evening of dance
and film with Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company at
7:30 p.m. It is part of Access to
Art’s continuing salute to Sam Maitin in
film and dance. A second film, a screen dance
short, will be offered by Susannah Newman, former
SUNY Assoc. Professor of Dance, choreographer and
film maker. Carolyn Dorfman will also
premiere an original piece of choreography called
“He Walks on the Wings of the
Wind,” after the l04th psalm that
Maitin often illustrated, as he did for the
Christian Association at University of
Pennsylvania.
“We are very
grateful to Dr. Brady for his support of our
endeavors. Recipient of over 24 gold and
silver medals from the distinguished universities

that are too difficult for everyone else. He is
