Maitin
Chamber Music Festival Oct. l5th
Cape
May Court

first
concert
of their Fall classical chamber
music series, newly named “The

Maitin, on Oct.

Church,

Kenniff, Classical
Guitar, and Brett
Deubner, Violist
who
call their musical collaboration
“Duo Fresco.”
“Sam
Maitin began our
classical chamber music series,
brought me artist, Aurelia Mika
Chang, and her talented friends to
Cape May,
and designed our art work for our
music festival flyers,” said Barbara
Beitel, Access to Art, Inc.
director.
“He died last December 23rd,
and we would like to acknowledge him
and his contributions to us by
naming the festival after him.”
she
said.
Duo
Fresco, including violist Brett
Deubner
and guitarist, Christopher
Kenniff gave their
first series of performances
together in the 2003-2004 concert
season.
Of their performance on the Access
to Art Chamber Music Series (Cape
May,
N.J.),
Classical New Jersey noted that the
duo’s “technical and ensemble
ability is impeccable” and that they
“produced a concert that was one
highlight after another.”
The
Star Ledger (Newark,
N.J.)
has described Mr.
Kenniff as having “a
lush, liquid tone, remarkable clean
fingering and a nicely varied
touch,” while observing that “There
is a burning intensity to
Deubner’s
playing, and a refreshing variation
in the color of his viola tone.”
Classical
New Jersey
has noted Mr.
Kenniff’s playing
for its “elegance, accuracy and
impeccable technique” while
describing
Deubner’s
playing as “extremely sensitive and
expressive.”

“We saw this place and we fell in love
with it. It’s convenient that they have
a catering business, and that it’s next
to the shops and the garden center, so
they can help promote it. Each year we
do this auction so that we can defray
the cost of the current dance company.
This year we are presenting Battleworks,
a New York company, whose founder,
Robert Battle danced for Parsons Company
for seven years, choreographing for them
while he danced. His works have been
seen on three continents.” said Simon.
He’s also choreographed for Alvin Ailey
twice, and for Hubbard 2 Ballet, Dallas
Black Dance, and he’s taught at Jacob’s
Pillow and at Saratoga Springs. He’s the
youngest choreographer to be invited
into the American Dance Legacy series.
He does the ivy league circuit, and he
just finished choreographing a piece for
Juilliard, where he studied as a
scholarship student, for their 50th
anniversary.’’ Simon said.
The company was down here in April,
bringing modern dance to area schools
both in Avalon (for Middle, Cape May,
Somers Point and Wildwood schools) and
Wildwood for Wildwood Middle and High
School and Wildwood Crest. They also
gave three master classes for area
students in Atlantic County. Access
feted them at a gourmet dinner at the
Union Park Dining Room in Cape May.
